These are my first ideas based around combinations and alliances.

Inspiring Magazine Conventions
Here I looked at conventions of magazines and annotated them to look at the features they use so I could bear them in mind for creating my magazine.
Then I looked at alternative magazines and analysed the way that these differed, this allowed me to understand the limitlessness of creating an alternative magazine, and the whole range of things that I could include in my magazine.
Planning my Magazine.
This is the plan for my magazine, here I've brainstormed all my ideas for the plan, what kind of magazine it will be, what it will include, the name ans the style.
Jillian Tamaki
Jillian Tamaki is the artist that I've become recently inspired by for my magazine cover, she covers a massive range of forms generally in her work that seems to combine a handmade style and also a lot of use of photoshop which creates a unique style combined with traditional effects.
Experimenting with Acrylic Ink
Here I decided to select different layers of my original picture and paint them separately on different pieces of paper using acrylic ink, I tried to use quite a messy style, hoping for some accidental mistakes, then scanning them into Photoshop and layering them on top of each other, then experimenting with hues and saturation to see the effect that I got.

Conventions and Playing with Photoshop

Here, I had decided the title of the magazine so I wanted to see what it would look like in context. I also did this to experiment with some magazine conventions and experimenting with Photoshop, and what kind of look I wanted. I tried to understand conventions of magazines through Photoshop tutorials. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ilJFFmqaPdM

Experiments
Here I began playing with different kinds of paint to see what kind out outcome I would have. I began with watercolour and started using it in several different ways, one of the techniques I tried was with beginning with the paper being wet, and painting the base colour of the portrait and allowing it to settle then painting over the top of it to create a layered effect.
I then tried on dry paper just trying to get an outline which was much more difficult because it made me more conscious of making mistakes. After trialling that I found it easier to start making the most of the mistakes and then at a later stage I began to paint over them and starting to remake layers and work with tone and intensity.
As you can see I later tried acrylic paints which I was new to working with. I chose to use very few colours so that I could create a good tone for the skin colour and so that you could see where the shading was, I then chose to ink over the top of it to create a mix of texture but I'm not sure I like the overall effect because I don't think the mix compliments each other well, so the combination seems to clash.

Inspiration from "Little White Lies" Magazine
This is an alternative magazine that I found which incorporates popular culture, through music films and art. It really stood out for me as it goes against the grain when analysing the conventions of magazines, I enjoy the techniques used such as pencil combined with digital effects, which are sometimes simply fonts, particularly on the Black Swan issue. I am going to try and mirror this through my own work.

Artist Copies
This is one of my artist copies from little white lies magazine, I used the same techniques as within the original but made it my own with different pictures. I really enjoyed doing this technique because it was relatively simple but looks really effective.

Giggle Magazine
Here I found another alternative magazine that uses quite different techniques, but gives a really youthful and interesting feel, it uses quite a few regular conventions, I will use this magazine as another source of inspiration for my project.

Experimenting with Soft Pencils and Photoshop
Here I decided to play with brushes using a lot of different types and the effects of layers and altering the opacity, I thought this was quite a nice effect that could be used in an alternative magazine format.
Here I used a soft pencil on soft paper to achieve quite a delicate look, I tried to imitate the look created by the art on little white lies magazine. I used photoshop to edit it because alone I felt it was too delicate, and perhaps aged the image slightly. I then tried to put the picture into a magazine kind of format, with alteration of hues etc to experiment which I think worked and was a valid experiment but wasn't right for the style that I wanted to achieve. This is the picture that I got the inspiration from:
